KPMG’s Private Equity (PE) group brings together our transaction advisory, deal origination, M&A and tax professionals who work full time on deals for the private equity funds. We have the proficiency to support the full lifecycle of PE funds, whether it is investing in new assets, managing your portfolio, raising funds, exit planning or advising on proposed regulation. Our professionals work closely with the management of portfolio companies, embedding ‘best practices’ and helping build value prior to exit. Depending on the exit route, we also help prepare companies for IPO or manage the sale process.

In Malaysia, the support we provide to the Private Equity segment is provided out of KPMG Deal Advisory Sdn. Bhd., a company incorporated under Malaysian law and a member firm of the KPMG network of independent member firms affiliated with KPMG International Cooperative (“KPMG International”), a Swiss entity. The independent member firms of the KPMG network are affiliated with KPMG International. Each KPMG firm is a legally distinct and separate entity and describes itself as such.
Kumpulan Wang Persaraan (Diperbadankan)("KWAP") or the Retirement Fund (Incorporated) was established on 1st March 2007 under the Retirement Fund Act 2007(Act 662) replacing the repealed Pensions Trust Fund Act 1991 (Act 454).
The Pensions Trust Fund Act 1991 (Act 454) was enacted to assist the Federal Government in funding its pension liability. With the enactment of this Act, the Pensions Trust Fund was established on 1 June 1991 with a launching grant of RM500 million from the Federal Government. The Pensions Trust Fund was administered by the Pensions Trust Fund Council with the Accountant General of Malaysia being responsible for the day to day administration and management of the affairs of the Pensions Trust Fund.
With the incorporation of KWAP, all powers, functions, activities, assets and liabilities of the Pensions Trust Fund were taken over in totality by KWAP.
Objective
The objective of KWAP is to manage the fund (“the Fund”) established under Section 13 of Retirement Fund Act 2007 (Act 662) towards achieving optimum returns on its investments. The Fund shall be applied towards assisting the Federal Government in financing its pension liability.
Functions
The functions of KWAP are as follows:
Navis Capital Partners was founded in 1998 in order to make private equity investments in buyouts, recapitalisations and financial restructurings in Asia, particularly on enterprises with a strong presence in Southeast Asia.

Navis’ investment model places a low reliance on leverage to drive its equity returns.
The firm manages several private and public equity capital commitments totaling ~USD 5 billion, and whose investors include a number of well-known US, European, Middle Eastern and Asian commercial and investment banks, pension funds, insurance companies, corporations, foundations, as well as a number of high net worth individuals and family offices. Navis has one of the largest private equity professional team in Asia, comprising more than 70 individuals, supported by 40 administrative staff, in six offices across the region.
